Affenpinscher

 

The Affenpinscher Dog Breeds have been around for hundreds of years, but not many people have heard of them today. Also known as the Monkey Terrier, these little dogs originated in Germany in the early 1700s, and were bred to be vermin hunters, ratters and mousers, among other things. They were bred to be ratters and their name is derived from a German word meaning monkey terrier because they were said to act like monkeys in the way they jump around.

The tail of this breed is traditionally docked, but can be left as long as it's not longer than the length of the dog's body. They are generally black with white markings on their chest, feet and tip of their tail. The head can be either black or white and the eyes should always be black or dark brown.

 

 Temperament 

Affenpinschers are known for their sweet, playful and affectionate temperaments. They do not usually bark unless there is a reason for them to do so. They enjoy close contact with their family and are excellent lap dogs. Affenpinschers are not aggressive in any way, but they will defend themselves if necessary.

 

 Healthy

They are relatively healthy dogs and their average life span is 12 to 15 years.
